But I have to say try it with twins...

  2. Beautiful! My sister had her baby almost a year ago and She will totally agree with you.
I felt sometimes as you describe and I'm just his uncle.

    ReplyDelete
  3. This strip is awesome. Living this right now...best time of my life though!

    ReplyDelete
  4. love it. the "me to we" thing is beautiful. I'm there right now

    ReplyDelete
  5. So lovely and so true. Been through that three times, and as hard as it was, I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. Even if it meant having to read "Goodnight Moon" a thousand times more.

    ReplyDelete
  6. It's been a while for me.. my baby is 9 years old now, but I remember those days like they were yesterday. Each season passes quickly. Enjoy every moment and thanks for the reminder. Your 'me' to 'we' illustration is beautiful and spot on.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I have to say, this is really cute. That said, a poodle is not an object and I strongly disagree with that part.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I love being child free. None of this crap applies. The only thing I get to do is whatever the hell I want.

    ReplyDelete
  9. You are brilliant! I wish you were in the daily paper.

    ReplyDelete
  10. The Dogs mother: We did! Grant is a twin.

    ReplyDelete
  11. First anonymous you're right! You're on the Me part! That's the whole point! We(parents) were all there once. Winwin.. I agree a dog is not an object but that is not what he meant. I have a minidachsund and I chuckled when I saw that BC it is true.
It's ALL true lol my little one is almost 2

    ReplyDelete
  12. For what it's worth, the author of Olivia (the pig with the stripey shirt) does have a couple of kids.

    ReplyDelete
  13. i know exactly what you mean! my best friend had her first 3 years ago and I feel ive been through all of that and more

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm not a parent, but after I saw this I can't wait!

    ReplyDelete
  18. "Me to We" is the most beautiful thing yo have ever draw.

And now in spanish. Tener hijos te vuelve la vida del revés, para lo bueno y para lo malo y hay que saber ver las dos cosas.

    ReplyDelete
  19. my life's summary....
    m loving it

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  24. I love this! I've been a #newdad for 13 months now and 98.5% of this story applies to me. Wouldn't change a thing, tho. (murakami is the other 1.5%)

    ReplyDelete
  25. I never heard my parents and parents in law talk about us this way. I am sure it is not that their kids were different. I think they were different!, and most loving! That is not to say parents of today are not loving.

    ReplyDelete
  26. oh my...that is so true...i feel that...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Lovely :)All the parents will be always caring for their kids even if they grow old.

    ReplyDelete
  28. @winwin, Two things: First, it's a figure of speech. Like the other examples, the poodle is an entity upon which the baby is acting which will then react. Second, the choices in the context are Person and Object. The poodle is not a person, therefore it is an object - and here is where I strongly disagree with you.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Mine would be modified slightly to fit my single parent situation. Especially the Me - We part.

    ReplyDelete
  30. N Lefer, you and your child (children) aren't "we"?

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  32. Congratulations, Grant! You win.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Loved it. This is happening with 'us' right now. And I am loving it. I am quite surprised that I am not the only one to think in 'those' directions.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The whole segment is delightful, but your last frame is a wonderful and powerful illustration what it means to truly "grow up."

  71. Pablo and Nacho's DadNovember 14, 2013 at 6:17 AM

Nice Strip!. For twins, just multiply it by 2.5. That .5 is the "do things twice BUT at the same time AND in different places".

    Enjoy those unique feelings

    ReplyDelete
  72. Moral of the story is always use a condom. Always.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Simply great and realistic! Greeting from Bologna (Italy)

    Greetings!!!

    ReplyDelete
  83. here is my lessons from a year of parenting:
    1. before he cries, he tries.
    2. language is utterly and completely unnecessary. my child gets me to do whatever the hell he wants without using a single word.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Thanks for all the comments! I appreciate the overwhelming response to this comic. :)

    ReplyDelete
  85. Thank you. I read this laughing and crying at the same time. Beautiful.

  95. brilliantly drawn up. I love the bath time-meal time-bed time. lov the "is she warm enough" as I have found myself covering uncovering re covering re uncovering re-re covering and re-re uncovering etc etc so manytimes.. lov the me to we.... lov the everything. I am not the only one whose life has changed from "young me" to "mama we"... with no regrets at all! God bless

    ReplyDelete
  96. Wonderful! My baby is 9 months old, and it's really like that! But it's incredible feeling to be a part of WE. I wish everybody to have that!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Really Loved this..... Am going through the same situation now..... Enjoyin each bit of this...

    ReplyDelete
  101. Just a quick comment - first for the artist - beautiful. And then one for all the new parents - get ready now! My baby just recently turned 36, and I still have those fears. Being a parent is forever.

    ReplyDelete
  102. For all those folks who read this and feel the need to share that they are never having kids - please, don't have them. No one wants you to. The last thing this world needs is more bad parents. Please leave the parenting to people like Grant Snider, who are good parents.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Came across this on 9gag. So beautful, Grant! Thank you for this! - A Loving Mom to a Loving Father

P.S. - The "We" frame....amazing to show the transition into parenthood/marriage.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Baha this is great! Love the last set of frames.

    ReplyDelete
  105. True, but second time around you know better.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Hi,
I teach AP Lit and find your literary drawings fantastic. Can I post a few on my class blog?

    ReplyDelete
  107. Almost all happening..she is only 16 months..lot of things to learn

    ReplyDelete
  108. Better be single.Such a horrible experience.No life atall :(

    ReplyDelete
  109. Loved it,,,true indeed :-)

    ReplyDelete
  110. Wonderful! I especially like the "ME" which turns into "WE". I will share this with several of my already/soon to be parents.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Having a child changes YOU!!

    ReplyDelete
  112. Parenthood changes YOU!!

    ReplyDelete
  113. Es genial, tal cual. Sobre todo el tema del miedo y del ego. Saludos.

    ReplyDelete
  114. OMG I love the "me to we" at the end… Congratulations, and best wishes for the next year!

    ReplyDelete
  115. I have to agree with someone else here that has twins. My daughter has twins and it is an almost impossible existance for her. She is like a walking zombie.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Absolutely loved this illustration. The fears section is so me! And love the 'Me to We'. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Really nice comic:)

My children are teenagers and I almost has forgotten how this is in the beggining:)

Still if you have 2 or more children, with second, third,... things change.

As Keli said: Enjoy every moment while they are so small. As they grow, they spend less and less time with us (and that's ok).

    ReplyDelete
  118. Great father of a 18 monthes old little girl I enjoy to help parents and feel reset time made by the little daughter into her grand-father's clock.
Comics nice to read. Enjoyment and happyness.

    ReplyDelete
  119. This is so so true...loved this strip :)

    ReplyDelete
  120. Bellissima.... Il finale è geniale e ti scalda il cuore... Bravo!!!

Very Nice indeed... The finale part is great and warm up your heart!!!
    Bravo!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  121. Amazing.. and super True!!

    ReplyDelete
  122. AWESOME!!
This is the animated way of how i Feel everyday as a parent!!

    ReplyDelete
  123. Totally concur with all of the above... and I wish I could tell ya it gets better as they get older, but alas, I would be lying. At least you have a wife to help you with the baby. I know it's not a competition, but imagine doing that for 7+ years, without a spouse and without financial support from family or the baby daddy, whilst working full time and paying for the obviously needed child care. Oy. I might have to be off to the Looney Bin soon.

I will enjoy sharing this with all my friends who THINK they want kids and have absolutely no idea what it's really like. Kudos sir! And good luck to you! :)

    ReplyDelete
  124. I certainly can relate this stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  125. As much as I liked the strip, I feel I need to criticize that me->we -part. You might already realize I do not have kids, and those who think I am therefore not "grown-up" and able to have mature opinions, you don't need to read further ;) It _really_ hurts when someone considers the child free/childless persons automatically as selfish (me, me, me..) just because they do not have children of their own. There are also other aspects of life where one can act in a non-selfish way besides parenting. People that don't have children have time and energy for example for volunteering or taking care of other family members besides kids. The world would in fact be a better place if our circle of people that we care about would expand far beyond the walls of our own homes. --Jenni

    ReplyDelete
  126. i feel like i was not like this when i was an infant?
But guess what, all the trouble i probably gave my parents, are coming back to me though my kids. Talk about 'Taste of your own medicine.'

    ReplyDelete
  127. I am going through that phase and I am loving it.....,,,happy,sad,and funny moments of life..

    ReplyDelete
  128. Very funny but VERRRY True. I was told it'd be like ds n I laughed impossible..... But eventually reality caught up wit me. I hope some single guys also read this. Congratulations dads...

    ReplyDelete
  129. Simply awesome and so very true.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I see the these comics by a hot link. I am be a father recently. This comic has struck a responsive chord in my heart. Thank you and best wishes to your baby.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Spot on - 6months in and I can completely relate. Despite the sacrifice and tough days it is the best thing in the world to be a Dad.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I found the last part "from ME to We" horribly offensive for your partner. Meaning that you were not a WE before having a baby? you mean you were all about yourself ME when were only the two of you? Ewwwww I hope the person I will have kids with would never ever do this to me

    ReplyDelete
  133. Couldn't have said it better, such a fun wrap on the journey of parenting.

    ReplyDelete
  134. How did you know about my life?!! It's the same :o)

    ReplyDelete
  135. It would be nice to have a cartoon with more positive aspects of parenting…not only at the end…e.g. the sense of achievements we feel as parents when the child achieves something, the feeling of being proud for small things, the new joy of simple discoveries...

    ReplyDelete
  136. It is really true.

    ReplyDelete
  137. i love it beb, true mostly

    ReplyDelete
  138. Absolutely stunning work, yet another one on my 'need to buy' list!

    ReplyDelete
  139. Really an astute noting & expression exact of the experience / observation!!!

    ReplyDelete
  140. Only in the pic showing 2 parent but in real live most of the time only one parent do all of it.

    ReplyDelete
  141. And it all starts with sexy time!

    ReplyDelete
  142. This is fantastic, and I absolutely love the ending. So sweet and well done.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I love this! I've shared on Twitter and Facebook.

    ReplyDelete
  144. "Me to We" is the best way to summarize it, thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  145. That last 3 panels was a brilliant finishing touch X) Lovely insight into parenting, and told beautifully.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Try it with twins, you say? Try it with two sets of twins, and two other children, I say. :)

    ReplyDelete
  147. thank the goddesses I'm a lesbian!!

    ReplyDelete
  148. From Kiwi mum and dad.the pics are so real and the WE pic is especially true. Try it with 5 kids, our youngest says we just kept trying till we got one we liked!! But we hung in there and have just celebrated our 40th Wedding anniversary with all five and partners and 6 (so far) wonderful grand kids. Life is good and worth all the blood, sweat and tears. Have as many as you can manage, not as few as you can get away with.Keep smiling-

    ReplyDelete
  149. I return again and again to this comic, it is so brilliant - simple yet to the point and funny. I just adore your comics!

    ReplyDelete
  150. Soo true!! No complaints though.:)

    ReplyDelete
  151. the point of the me to we is that the day you have a child is the last time you wake up and think about yourself first. Even if you have a partner, they (hopefully) are not totally dependent on you. That is the huge mental shift

    ReplyDelete
  152. A year of parenting .. indeed it looks funny but that's the real story.

    ReplyDelete
  153. I am undeniably thankful to you for providing us with this invaluable related information. My spouse and I are easily grateful, quite frankly the documents we needed.
    Dora The Explorer Finger Family

    ReplyDelete
  154. Still one of your best comics, Mr. Snider!
