I've spent the last few years devouring the books of Haruki Murakami. Twelve novels, three short story collections, and one memoir later, I came up with this comic. If you have yet to experience the genius of Murakami, keep this Bingo card handy as you delve into his work. I recommend starting with The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, Kafka on the Shore, or Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World. You can find this comic in print in Sunday's New York Times Book Review.

Lovely, thanks, though I kinda of missed "listless, unemployed protagonist", and "reveries of Tokyo student life during the revolutionary sixties."

How could I forget Cutty Sark?!
Will this be available as a poster? I must have it.
Anonymous: Yes, it is available - just follow the ordering instructions at my poster shop.
No sheep? How could there be no sheep?
Hey Grant,
Looks like congrats are in order. I just discovered your strip for the first time in the NYTBR--April 1st edition. Very cool.
Murakami is one of my 'new' favourite authors - I've worked my way through five of his novels so far. This made me smile.
I love Murakami!
Another fan here!
Awesome! I love Murakami. This bingo card is great! :)
spaghetti dinner...
Uh you mean John Gall cover, right? Come on :)
Great piece!
What about sexy nurses in remote Japan sea coast nursing homes (1Q84)...?
I'd recommend starting with A Wild Sheep Chase.. didn't quite enjoy Kafka on the Shore but 1Q84 was a brilliant comeback :)
A absolutely love it! It needs to be on a t-shirt immediately.
Where's the 'suicide' space?
This is fantastic! Though, I am missing sheep. Can't believe there isn't a box for sheep. Really like the "cats", "talking to cats" and "vanishing cats" boxes though.
I am totally going to play this the next time I read a Murakami novel.
I was in Tokyo with an old friend this weekend and we had a good laugh over your poster. If you have it made into a t-shirt, I'd snap up a couple. Cheers. My faves were the "ears" and "urban ennui." Really clever and fun. thanks.

I think lift and library would be good additions - nice work!
Thank you very much for this! It will be helpful since I plan to start reading some Murakami soon!
I disagree:
my tic tac toe goes:
-wife mysteriously leaves
-her creepy brother in law
-boils pasta and opens can of beer -and watches TV baseball
and:
-precocious teenager
The shape of the breasts??
Good one but honestly, no Sheep?!?
everyones smoke: seven stars :)
