Château for a Cartoonist

When I've drawn my millionth cartoon, published my memoirs, and sold the movie rights, I should have the financial resources to make the blueprints for this home a reality. I'll have to find an architect equally versed in escalators and observatories. I'll need a landscaper with a thorough knowledge of truffula trees. And a decent zookeeper or ex-lion tamer for my collection of exotic pets.

The murals and sculptures will all be created by the original artists. This will require some scientific advances in order bring back the late George Herriman (1880-1944). It won't be cheap to fund research in the long-neglected field of corpse reanimation, but the result will be worth it. If you can name all the artists I reference in this drawing, I will give you a job tending the koi ponds.

  1. sorry for the stupid question, but who is the cartoon figure next to the DJ?

  2. e: Not a stupid question. It's James Kochalka's "American Elf." The best daily autobiographical comic out there.

  4. Is that really a picture of a wild thing in the bedroom? Love the Dr. Seuss trees too now I wish I had one!

  5. Awesome... perhaps I would add a cloning facility, you know if one would like someday a dinosaur pet...

  6. The crocodile under the bedroom is a nice touch. Extra security, perchance?

  7. The truffula trees are from Dr. Suess, and that flag looks like Charlie Brown's shirt...

  8. NOOoooo...don't keep the giraffes and elephants locked up!

unless you are cross breeding them to get a super giraphant, with a tongue as long as its trunk.

    good job!

  9. Henebry: I salute the flag of Peanuts daily.

Jean: "Wild thing in the bedroom" sounds like a cheesy romance novel or bad disco band.

Rob: Yes. I will talk to Michael Crichton about that.

Squirrel: Huh, I don't know how that crocodile got there!

    Justin: Great idea.

  12. I think the house/mansion will all be possible by the time you draw your millionth cartoon! Dream big and go get it!

  13. Hopefully, your consistent quality will make this fabulous home happen before you've drawn a million drawings. Really like your style, especially the tastefully chosen colours for each drawing.

(btw; your avatar somehow reminds me of combination of the hair of Fry from Futurama, and the face of Kalle, the antihero of a somewhat famous animated Swedish TV series for kids in the mid 70s: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baB8oBAoqcg (with quite possibly the most annoying theme music in animated cartoon history..))

  14. Andrew and Aakriti: Thank you!

oddbjorn: I'd never seen that cartoon before, but it looks Awesome. And I actually kind of like the theme music, though it might wear thin after multiple episodes.

  18. I see the poster of Binky, and this reminds me of Binky's Dream House that was one of the Life In Hell comics from about 20-25 years ago...delightful work!

  19. This is why we should continue to repress cartoonists, if we don't this is what they'll spend their money on. The less happy the cartoonist = the more funny their cartoons. It's sad, but necessary.

  20. Ethan: Unfortunately, you may be right. There is no humor without artistic and personal frustration.

sag1015: I've been informed I actually drew Bongo (1 ear) not Binky (2 ears). And that Binky's Dream House cartoon is one of my favorite EVER.
